Elizabeth (Betty) Arnsdorff Hansel, 88, died peacefully at her home with her son, Rick Hansel and special caregiver, Christie Rosier by her side. Services will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel in Richmond Hill visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial is at the Burnt Church Cemetery. Elizabeth was born in Savannah on March 26, 1928 to Willie Rountree Arnsdorff Bazemore and Hinton Arnsdorff who died before her birth. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Rufus Lovett Bazemore. After graduating from high school, she attended Candler Hospital School of Nursing where she received her LPN license. She worked in several hospitals before joining the US Army in 1951. While serving in the Army, she met her husband Richard F Hansel & married in October of the same year. As a military family, they lived in South Carolina, Hawaii and Japan before finally settling down in Richmond Hill. She loved music, dancing and never met a stranger. Always quick to laugh and see the good in people. Flowers & gardening was her great love & pastime but the community of Richmond Hill could always count on her to help with the people who were sick and in need care. When her children were young, her home was always a gathering spot for the kids of Richmond Hill. Many young people called her mama & now look back at the good times shared in her home. Elizabeth leaves behind her daughter Kathy Hansel Ponte, son-in-law Robert Ponte, her devoted son, Rick Hansel, her sister-on-law Mary Helen Arnsdorff and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Dick: sister, Willie Exley and brother, Ray Arnsdorff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
