Reverend Mary Lucille Floyd went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 2, 2015. She was born March 05, 1925, to Isaiah Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Downs, Sr. She attended Liberty County Schools and majored in music, publishing several songs before becoming a full time licensed minister. She was the founder of Hinesville Holy Church of God, where she served as Senior Pastor for 58 years. She had a deep love for her church congregation. Her music was always a part of her ministry. She had the voice of an angel. She even sung for the Governor’s Ball. Her ministry reached out to people around the world. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Talmadge L. Floyd, a daughter, Janice Marlene, her parents Mr. & Mrs. I.B. Downs, Sr., and one sister, Vivian Cook. Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Carol (Tommy Wilson) of Hinesville, Iris (Charles Spradley) of Hinesville, Mary (David Cobb) of Tennessee and Rita Floyd of Hinesville; three brothers, I.B. Downs (Helen) of Allenhurst, Donald Downs (Lenora) of Allenhurst and Jimmie Downs, Sr. (Betty), of Hinesville; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild, and sister-in-law, Annette Floyd of Baxley. Visitation will be 4-9 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 2 pm, Sunday, December 6, 2015, at Crossroads Holy Church of God (2470 Elma G Miles Parkway and Airport Road, Hinesville). Burial will follow in the Flemington Presbyterian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Spradley, David Kersey, John Spradley, Michael Dalrymple, Christopher Kersey, David Cobb Jr., Thomas Kersey, Greg Pike, and Matt O’Quinn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Priscilla Inman, Danny Futch, Allen Dodge, Katherine Perry, Wayne Lee, G.W. Peden, Marie Plough, Bill Futch and William Dasher.
