Marion Lee Avera, age 77, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015, under the care of Heartland Hospice, surrounded by family. He was a Liberty County resident and member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. He retired with 34 years from the National Guard Training Center, Fort Stewart, Georgia. After retirement, he was able to devote all of his time to caring for their small farm. He enjoying spending every day doing what he loved; taking care of his cows and any of the other duties farm work required. As much as he loved his farm, his family meant everything to him. He loved spending time with each of them, but his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Rosa Avera; a sister, Hazel Jefferies; and two brothers, Jimmy and Maurice Avera. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kay Avera; two daughters, Cheryl Blocker (Gerald) of Glennville and Becky Wimberly (Travis) of Hinesville; four grandchildren, Joshua Wimberly (Jessica) of Hinesville, Taylor Wimberly (Carly Rudat) of Pooler, Bethany Odum (Matt) of Glennville, and Whitney Smith (Brandon) of Ludowici); three great-grandchildren, Bryson, Josilynn, Brennan, and another great-granddaughter, Kinley Rosa, on the way; two brothers, Dan Avera (Joyce) of Live Oak, FL, Clint Avera (Carolynn) of Jacksonville, FL; one sister-in-law, Donna Avera of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
