Joan Hollingsworth, age 79, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici after a long illness.Born in Griffin, Georgia, she lived in Sardis for 10 years before moving to Hinesville in 1958. She was a graduate of Tift College, and received a Master’s and a Six-Year Degree in Education from Georgia Southern University. She worked for the Liberty County Board of Education for 37 years, where she was a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, then Principal of Bradwell Institute for eight years. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and attended Hinesville First United Methodist Church. She was on the Library Board and a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Bradwell Boosters, and served on the Bradwell Institute Hall of Fame Board. Survivors include her sister, Jean Johnson (Clifford) of Hinesville; brother, James T. Hollingsworth, Jr., of Townsend; nephews, Hal Johnson (Lynn) of Macon and James T. Hollingsworth, III, of Sardis; nieces, Lisa Saitow (Kenny) of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Sarah E. Hollingsworth of Statesboro; four great-nephews and 3 great-nieces, and one great-great-niece.Visitation will be held 10-11 am, Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11am in the chapel with Rev. Dale Thornton officiating.
