Paul Ovid Revels

January 5, 1925 — September 11, 2015

Paul Ovid Revels Jr passed away 11 September 2015 at San Jose Health and Rehabilitation Center. He passed away peacefully, fully in the knowledge that he was going to a higher place than this earth (although he seemed to be peeved that it took so long). He was born 5 Jan 1925 to Sadie Hiers Revels and Paul Ovid Revels. He lived a full life and was a part of the greatest generation. He enlisted in the Navy the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He enlisted below the legal age and had to have his father’s signature to do this. According to family lore, his mother did not talk to his father for three full months after this. He served honorably for the Navy in the Pacific. His family has pictures of him during this era, which show a very skinny American sailor doing his job for God and country. He served in Norfolk, VA during the Korean conflict. He “got the call” for preaching and ministered to a number of Primitive Baptist churches in Georgia. He loved the Lord and kept his calling as long as he was physically able. When family would come down to visit he would get them in the “Amen Corner” and have dialogue. Family recognized his sharp wit and humor and took great delight in debating him to keep him on his toes and on theirs! He taught his daughters about 4th downs, cooking squirrels and doves, catching and cleaning fish, to be punctual (if you’re on time you’re late) and keep your word (a man’s word is his bond). He would want to be remembered for his love of God, family and country, his gentle spirit and his sayings. His sayings which impart humor and wisdom include such family treasures as: The song Waterloo; go to the roundhouse Nellie, they can’t corner you there; Frog in the fig tree fig frog fig; Fine as frog’s hair; Show me your friends and I'll show you your future; Don't say it if you don't mean it; Go to bed (Faye); Yeah-uh-huh (usually punctuated with a hand gesture); Redder than a foxes behind in persimmon time; All you have is your word that you will do something and if you don't have that you don't have anything; I don't even know what toot’em is; I may not know all that's in the bible but I know what's not in it; Santy Claus came in the spring, Santy Claus came when the skies were blue and now it's Christmas every day since I met you. He is preceded in his passing by his parents P.O. Revels and Sadie Hiers Revels , sisters Marjorie Revels Parker, Sara Kay Willis, and first wife Mary Frances Revels. Those left to mourn his passing and cherish his memories are his wife Adrianne Revels of Jacksonville, FL, three daughters Paula Perry (Robert) Richmond Hill, GA, Lou Wolsefer (Mark)Clermont, FL, Sara Kornegay (Mike)Richmond Hill, GA, and step son Richard Bolton (Bethel)Yulee, FL, eight grandchildren and one great grandson. Mere words cannot enumerate the impact he had on people’s lives. He officiated many weddings and funerals. He was a consoler in times of grief and a congratulator in times of triumph. His family always knew they could count on him for counsel (good or bad) and that he loved them no matter their faults. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 14 September 2015.
