William “Poppy” Arlon Thomas, 75, of Richmond Hill, GA passed away suddenly on August 14, 2015 at home. He was born on September 7, 1939 in Manor, Georgia. He attended Manor High School, Class of 1957 and attended Southern Technical College. Billy retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation in June of 1989 after 34 years of service as a Bituminous Construction Engineer. Billy loved to dance and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sitting on his dock and watching Braves baseball. Billy was married to Sarah Williams Thomas on August 15, 1981 and they were married for 34 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; sister, Shirley Storey; mother-in-law, Veda Boondry; his faithful companion, Lucy; his children, Jay (Amy) Williams, Chris (Gaye) Williams, Steve (Jeannie) Thomas, Elizabeth Williams, and Cathy Thomas Bazemore; his grandchildren, Jared (Tiffany) Williams, Lance Williams, Brandy Williams, Jason Tomlinson, William Andrew Tomlinson, Brittini Thomas, Matthew Williams, Sydney Tomlinson, Gage (Amber) Govero, Kaci Govero, Alex Thomas, Caroline Williams, Brittany Williams, Casey Lovett, Brenna Bazemore, Rebecca Thomas and Chandler Tomlinson; four great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. Billy is preceded in death by his parents: William Harvey Thomas and Ruby Thomas Corbitt and his brother, James “Buster” Thomas. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to the St. Anne’s Building Fund, P O Box 648, Richmond Hill, GA 31324. Funeral arrangements are being provided by Carter Funeral Home, 10512 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, GA 31324. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 17th at the funeral home from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. His funeral service will be officiated by Fr. Joseph Smith on Tuesday, August 18th at Noon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 10550 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, Georgia.
