Donny Joseph Spell

September 9, 1965 — March 10, 2015

Richmond Hill Donny Joseph Spell, 49, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was born in Savannah and has lived in Richmond Hill the past 15 years. Donny was a Gulf War Veteran serving nine years in the US Army and was a member of Grace Culture in Faulkville, GA. He has twenty years in the electrical field working the past seven years at Graybar Electric. Donny coached youth football and baseball in Richmond Hill while coaching baseball at Memorial Day School. Donny was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper and loved to travel. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Newman and Thelma Spell. Survivors include his wife of fifteen years, Robin Spell; children, Daniel Spell of Richmond Hill, Justin Smith (Amber) of Statesboro, Mark Smith (Megan) of Fayetteville, NC, and Bonnie Smith of Richmond Hill; grandson, Nolan Smith; a very special niece, Emma Rose Shuman, the princess; mother and step father, Faye and Ed Erskine of Richmond Hill; father and stepmother, Danny and Gloria Spell of Richmond Hill; two sisters, Ali Bolen (Johnny) of Savannah and Amy Cribbs of Savannah; maternal grandmother, Katie White of Bloomingdale; aunts and uncles, Mickey Spell (Juanita) of Richmond Hill, Ted White (Ester) of Bloomingdale, Janice Jeffers (Derek) of Guyton, Arnold White (Deb) of Savannah and Elaine McLendon (Mike) of Guyton; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel and with burial to follow at Burnt Church Cemetery with military honors. A special thank you is extended to the staff of St. Joseph Hospital on the fifth floor.
