Melvin Linwood Brown

December 27, 1934 — November 21, 2014

Richmond Hill No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, we are gone before we know it, and only God knows why. Melvin Linwood Brown, lovingly known to many as Mel, Mr. Mel, or Melly Mel entered in the arms of the Lord on Friday, November 21, 2014 while in the care of St. Joseph/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He was born December 27, 1934 in Buttonwood New Castle, Delaware, the youngest child of seven to the late Latchat and Tronzia (Stevenson) Matthews, as Melvin Sylvester Matthews. He married Meredith Gertude “Rita” (Tunnell) Brown on September 12 1996 at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Ellendale Delaware, and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2012. Mr. Mel worked for the Town of Ocean City, Maryland until he retired March 1996. Then he worked for JG Townsend Jr. and Company, Georgetown, Delaware from May 2000 until September 2006. Melvin loved the lord and was a member of Solid Rock Holiness Church, then New Beginnings Holiness Ministries of Bridgeville, Delaware under Bishop Henry L. Turner, Jr. While in Richmond Hill, GA, he attended Canaan Baptist Church under Pastor Floyd Harford but in December 2013, he joined Overcoming By Faith under Pastor Ricky Temple with his step-daughter and son in law. He enjoyed attending the Richmond Hill Senior Citizen Center daily and attended all activities faithfully until his passing. He also loved doing yard work around his home with his family and he would wash and wax his car, rain or shine. Melvin was loving, kind, and helpful. He would offer assistance when he saw it was needed, and he was always making new friends everywhere he went. He loved his family and friends, far or near and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Small) and Kieron Vernon of Richmond Hill, GA; step-son, Robert Farrow, Jr., of Wilmington, DE; step-son, Ira E. Farrow and Linda of Camben, DE; step-son, Orlando Farrow and Soroya of Raliegh, NC; grandchildren, Davon Cleary, Aldith Cleary, Kieshria Reynolds (Farrow), Ira Farrow, Jr.; great granddaughter, LahzKira Deshields-Cleary; and other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife and adoptive parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Melvin of Wilmington, Delaware. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel.
