October 16, 1936 — November 14, 2014

Gum Branch Julia Theus Groover died peacefully at Liberty Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 14, 2014.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Judy was born October 16, 1936, in Ludowici, Georgia, to the late Ardis and Eula Theus.  She graduated from Ludowici High School in 1954 and continued her education at Georgia Southern University, graduating in 1957.  She received her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Education Specialist Degrees.  She was a retired teacher, having successfully taught school for 30 years.  Judy married the only love of her life, and her high school sweetheart, Talmadge Groover, and they had two sons, Tal and Art.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ludowici.  For many years, she taught Sunday School and served as coach of the Bible Drill Team at Gum Branch Baptist Church.  She also served as a volunteer at Coastal Manor Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Fay Theus Smith, her husband, and her son, Tal. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her son, Art and his wife, Mia, of Gum Branch; four grandchildren, Jennifer Groover Cardella (Matt), Jason Groover (Amber), Tyler Groover and Andrew Groover; four great-grandchildren; two loving sisters, Pam Theus Jordan (John), and Cheryl Theus Seaton; one brother, Al Theus (Sybil); nieces, Dawn Smith (Tim), Yvonne T. Griffin (Mike), Tere J. Miller (Creg); nephews, Fred Theus, Charlie Theus, and Brian Seaton (Lesley); and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and four very special lifelong friends. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Monday, November 17, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Ludowici.  Burial will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Rev. Mike Howard and Rev. Eric Rentz will officiate. Pallbearers will be Danny Groover, Gary Groover, Creg Miller, Garell Gordon, Spencer Masse, and Brian Seaton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Shirley Warren, Lou Nell Wolf, Elaine N. Driggers, Shirley Smiley Mathis and employees of Coastal Manor Nursing Home. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
