Don T Wright

Don T. Wright, U. S. Army (Ret.), of Hinesville, GA, died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital, from complications of chronic pulmonary disease. He was born February 24, 1940 to Bruce and Gladys (Hawks) Wright in Grayson County, VA. Retired from the US Army after 23 years of service, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and a recipient of the Bronze Star and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. An avid outdoorsman and big game hunter, Mr. Wright loved to cook and always cooked enough to feed an army. He was much loved, had many friends, and will be greatly missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin granddaughters, Erin and Karen Hoffer; brothers, Lester, Clifford, Ray and Jimmy; and sisters, Alese Bryant, Doris Jones and Christine Wright. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Anne Miness Wright; two daughters, Glenda Wright Voss and her husband, Wolfgang; Debra Wright Johanson and her husband, Eric; four grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Gunnar Johanson, Whitney Hoffer Deal (Michael), Skyler Hoffer (Sarah Balance), Aaron Hoffer (Alexis Polcyn); two great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn and Jacob; ten brothers and sisters, Peggy Truitt of Elon, NC, Betty Holder of Mt. Airy, NC, Nancy Johnson (Larry) of Galax, VA, Sue Lineberry (Jack) of Galax, VA, Maxine Robertson of Elon, NC, Ronnie Wright (Roberta), Hascal Wright (Ann), and Jack Wright (Barbara), all of Galax, VA, Bill Wright (Barbara) of Providence, NC, and Dale Wright of Rural Retreat, VA; sisters-in-law, Lynda Miness and Shirley Maney of Hinesville; close friend and former son-in-law, Billy Hoffer; and eighty nieces & nephews. The family will be receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday August 7, 2014, at the family home, 123 Miness Lane, Hinesville , GA A Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday August 8, 2014, at Live Oak Church Of God, 296 Live Oak Church Road, Hinesville, GA, with Reverend Aaron Cowart and Reverend David Price officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Hill, Bud and Linda Shuman, Jackie McClanahan, Anita Wyatt, Carol Guyette, Russell and Kelly Guyette, John Shuman, Kim and Jimmy Flournoy, Vondene Dasher, Jack Cooksey, Ken and Judy Guyette, and Jody Young. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 in the Wright Garden Cemetery, Old Wright's Home Place in Old Town/Galax, Virginia, with Reverend Ted Bartlett officiating.
