Clifford G. Black

Hinesville Clifford George Black, 78, was called to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Hospice Savannah. He was born in St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies, on July 9th, 1935 and was raised by his mother, Icilda Black, in St. Mary. At the age of 19, Clifford traveled to Kingston to make a better life for himself. He started working as a gardener, and after two years, decided he wanted a career in the furniture industry. He started working as a helper for a man called Mr. Burrell making and re-surfacing Cabinets. He loved the job so much that he decided to further his education in the furniture business by attending Mona College. He achieved the proper school credentials which allowed him to go out on his own and be his own boss. He became independent and started to build his own family. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Edna. In the year 1970, Clifford and Edna immigrated to New York where Clifford continued to work as a carpenter until his retirement in 2000. In 2001, he told his family that he was tired of shoveling snow and he and Edna relocated to Hinesville, Georgia, for warmer weather and a quieter life. Clifford has touched many lives with his kind and caring nature. He will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Black, who passed away in July of 2012. He leaves his two sons, Carlton and Barrington; daughter, Claudette; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at Crossroads Holy Church of God, with Reverend Danny Eason officiating. Viewing will be for one hour prior to the service.
