Staff Sergeant Theron L. Risinger (US Army, Retired), 74, died at his residence Monday under the care of Hospice Savannah. A native of Lexington County, SC, he lived in Hinesville for 39 years and was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. SSGT Risinger served two combat tours in Vietnam and retired from the Army with 21 years of service. He later retired from Civil Service at Fort Stewart after 18 years. He is survived by his wife, To Y. Risinger of Hinesville; daughters, Janell Arnold (Mike) and Nyoda Yarbrough (Lamar) of Hinesville; brother, Jimmy Risinger (Valerie) of Sumter, SC; three grandchildren, Brandon Collins of Hinesville, Cameron Arnold of Brunswick, and Joseph Yarbrough of Hinesville; niece, Sonya Hayden of Columbia, SC; and great-niece, Micayla Hayden of Columbia, SC. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Gum Branch Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Brown officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brandon Collins, Cameron Arnold, Howard Hill, Marty Adams, Woody Adams, and Doug Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gum Branch Baptist Church Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
