Jon Whitlock Collins died Saturday, January 18th, at the age of 71, in St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Liberty County, he was a graduate of Bradwell Institute and South Georgia Technical College. Mr. Collins served 7 years in Georgia National Guard and 35 years with the Department of Defense at Fort Stewart, Ga. During his years of service he was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm and to Bosnia during Operation Joint Endeavor. After retirement, he worked as a Liberty County Court Bailiff. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar Ellis and Evie Jane Collins of Hinesville, Ga. Left to celebrate his life and his memory are his wife of 47 years, Susan Sharpe Collins; three sons, Shawn Patrick Collins, Cagney Whitlock Collins, and Cassidy McCullough Collins; his brother, Edgar Ellis Collins (Brenda Silvers Collins) and many nieces and nephews. Jon was a quiet man who carried the love of Jesus Christ in his heart to share with others. A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 4:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Hinesville with a reception immediately following in the Fellowship hall. Burial will be at Flemington Presbyterian Church Cemetery Friday, January 24th at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Christian Academy of Hinesville, GA.
