Bruce Hadley Riley, 68, died Monday at his residence in Riceboro after a short illness. Born in Summerville, SC, on July 9, 1945, he had resided in Liberty County since 1969. Bruce attended Summerville High School where he played for the legendary Coach John McKissick and was named All-State Fullback all three years. Nicknamed “Touchdown Bruce”, he attended the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship. Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen D. Riley, who passed away of ovarian cancer in 2002; father, Sam Riley; and brother, Mike Riley. He is survived by his mother, Mabien Riley of Braselton, GA; three daughters, April Riley and Brandi Riley of Riceboro, and Shawn Shreve of Athens, GA; brothers, Rodney C. Riley (Rebecca) of Hinesville, and Sam “Dibble” Riley of Braselton; eight grandchildren, Kelcey Matthews, Ethan, Briana and Austin Roberson, Kylei Toney, Joshua and Matthew Walters, and Chandler Shreve. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, at Carter Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Brenda M. Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fleming. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bruce Riley Family, C/O Carter Funeral Home, 308 West Oglethorpe Blvd., Hinesville, GA 31313. A Going Away Party in Honor of Bruce will be held at the Greenhouse on Saturday, December 21, at 3 p.m. All friends and family are invited.
