Opal Goodman Menius, 97, of Pompano Beach FLA, died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Broward Health Imperial Point in Fort Lauderdale, FLA. She was a native of Mt Rowan County, N.C. Her father Rev James Floyd Menius (deceased) established several small churches in North Carolina. As Opal assisted him she developed an abiding interest in small churches. Opal graduated from Flora Macdonald College (now part of St. Andrews) and received a master degree from Columbia University in New York. For 44 years she taught in public and private schools of southern states most recently in Pompano Elementary and High school and at Sheridan Hills Christian in Hollywood. In recent years although a member of First Presbyterian in Pompano she has worked with Calvary Presbyterian in Coconut Creek. She was interested in writers and writing and is the author of three published books and many short stories. She is survived by a brother and his wife, Leonard Menius (Helen) of Lufkin, TX; by a nephew and his wife, Robert Menius (Linda) of Houston, TX; a nephew and his wife, Joseph Menius (Amy) of Plano, TX. Graveside Service was held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 11:00am at Flemington Presbyterian Cemetery the Rev. Greg Loskoski officiated. Online condolences can be made at www.carteroglethorpe.com.
