Savannah Joe Switz was born and raised in Savannah. Upon graduating from Savannah High School he joined the Army & served his country in World War II. He attended Armstrong Jr. College before graduating from George Washington University. He went on to to pursue a career as a hospital administrator in Denver. After retiring from that position he lived in California and worked for the US Customs Service. He moved back to his beloved Savannah in the mid 80’s where he worked in various volunteer positions, including hospitals, libraries and the Visitors Bureau. He lived an interesting and full life. He was a world traveler and made friends everywhere . He was known for his quick wit and generosity of spirit. He spent the last four years living at Buckingham South where he died on February 25, 2013. He was one of their most popular residents. He will be greatly missed. To honor Joe, he would like family and friends to raise a glass and bid him a fond farewell. He is survived by his nephew, Jerry Switz, Carolyn Switz & their daughter Amber Switz Latham, niece, Ellen Switz Klappholz, Mario Klappholz and sons, Ryan & Justin Ziegler. Also, Sister-in-law, Sara Switz Rigel and numerous cousins.
