Sarah Smiley McDonough

Sarah S. Smiley Barnes McDonough passed away on January 29th. She was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Laurena Hall Smiley and her daughter, Sarah Lynn Barnes Beck. She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Smiley Ogletree (Larry); three brothers, James Derry Smiley (Charlotte), Charles Jefferson Smiley, II (Betty), and Archie MacArthur “Mack” Smiley (Laura); and several nieces and nephews. Sarah graduated from Ludowici High School in 1959. She relocated to Savannah and graduated from Draughton Business College. She enjoyed a thirty-three year career, involving Western Electric Company, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies working in Savannah, Macon and Atlanta. She returned to Savannah after retirement and cared for her daughter until her death in 2008. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, a true friend, and an elegant lady. Those close to her knew her best as a trusting, thoughtful, caring and giving person. She was a person with whom you could always be yourself without judgments and was always willing to do for others. Visitation will be Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home followed by burial in the family cemetery at Gum Branch Baptist Church, Highway 196 West, Hinesville, GA .
