Edgar Miller Edwards, Jr., 54, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Emory University Hospital under the care of hospice after a courageous, two and a half years battle with cancer. Ed was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 6, 1957 to Patty and Ed Edwards and grew up in Hinesville. He was a 1975 graduate of Bradwell Institute and began his career in banking. Ed had lived in the Atlanta area for the past 28 years working in the banking and mortgage business. He was very active in the Boy Scouts and earned the prestigious God and Country Award. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Carl and Kathleen Varnedoe and paternal grandparents Alethia and Robert Carroll Edwards. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Ed and Patty Edwards, two sisters Kathleen (Michael) Valentine, Rebecca Smith (Rodney Riley), two brothers Pat (Lynne) Edwards, Bob (Diana) Edwards, and several very special nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at First United Methodist Church in Hinesville with the service immediately following. Burial will be at the Hinesville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew, Christopher, and Jason Valentine, Durand Standard, Carl Robert Varnedoe, Stan Thompson, Mike Ray, and Carroll Edwards, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hinesville Cemetery c/o First United Methodist Church. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
