Raymond Wm. Hayes, 84, died December 10, 2011 in Richmond Hill, Georgia. A prior resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania for 41 years, he had been living at Magnolia Manor in Richmond Hill for the last 3 years. Born in Trenton, Tennessee, he was the son of Virgil and Bessie Hayes. He was married for 51 years to the late Darlene V. Hayes. Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. His military career spanned 24 years active duty as a hospital corpsman, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (HMCS) in July, 1967. He moved his family from Imperial Beach, California to Lancaster where he continued working in hospital administration at Lancaster General Hospital and later became warehouse manager for Plastino & Owens. He is survived by his daughters, Marjorie, wife of David Myers of Brownstown, PA; and Betsy, companion of Dennis Bush of Lancaster, PA; and his sons, Michael, husband of Brenda of Richmond Hill, Georgia; and Raymond A. of Brandon, FL. His grandchildren: Christina Harris, Melinda Reese, Virginia Hayes, Matthew Hayes, Katie Durgin, and Koby Hayes have fond memories of many family times together with Pap. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Martha Denton and Betty Lockard of Trenton, Tennessee, and a brother, Virgil Hayes in Indiana. He enjoyed golfing, fresh and saltwater fishing, reading, and watching sports on TV. His dry sense of humor and quiet, easy-going ways endeared him to his 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Private funeral services and interment at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in Ray's memory may be directed to the United Hospice of Savannah, 9100 White Bluff Rd., Savannah, GA 31406.
